Wuhan, abbreviated as ¡®Han', also called ¡®River City', located in middle of China, connects Yangtze River and Han River, and it is the one of the mega cities and strategic important in traffic. Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province, and it is the economy, technology and culture centre in central China and middle Yangtze River. The Yangtze River and Han River flow across Wuhan, making it a structure of three town tripartite confrontation, which are Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang. |
Wuhan consists of 13 districts, which are Jiang'an, Jianghan, Qiaokou, Hanyang, Wuchang, Qingshan, Hongshan, Caidian, Jiangxia, Huangpi, Xinzhou, East West Lake, Hannan. These districts have dominated 108 local offices, 21 towns, and 15 villages. Wuhan covers 8467.11 square kilometres, in which the urban area covers 214.22 square kilometres.
Historically speaking, 6000-8000years ago, at pre-stone age, there were people lived in this lakes city, using stone tools developing their pre-historic culture. Panlong city, located in Panlong Lake, Huangpi district, was built in Shang Dynasty, more than 3500 years ago. In middle Min Dynasty, the Han River which flew via south of the Tortoise Mountain of Hanyang, changed its way via north of the mountain, so that formed the geography basic of Wuhan three town. In 1858, after signing ¡®Tianjing Treaty', Hankou was forced to open its dock to trade abroad. In March 1861, Hankou dock was open to trade officially. Hu-guang viceroy reported to Qin government in January 1 st 1862, setting Jianghan dock, and officially started to charge duty. The 15 th year of Guangxu emperor(1889), while Mr. Zhang Zhidong was appointed as Hu-guang viceroy, he set commercial ¡®New Policy' in Wuhan, establishing factory, school, training new army, etc. Nations industry had made great improvement and it was the foundation of modern times industry in Wuhan. |
